About the Item
In this lovely oil painting by Jennifer Hornyak, bright red flowers—perhaps poppies stand in a field of green. Billowy white clouds in a turquoise-blue sky frame the flowers and offer stunning contrast. Hornyak is known for her abstract and figurative work in vivid colours and rich textures. Her palette was inspired by both German Expressionism and the early 20th century French Fauvist masters such as Matisse who used colour in non-naturalistic ways.

She studied at the Grimsby School of Art in England. In 1961, she moved to Montreal where she attended McGill University, the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal and the Centre Saidye Bronfman. Hornyak has exhibited throughout North America and Europe including the Paris World Exhibition in 1987 where her work was shown alongside that of Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Hornyak’s work is represented in many private and corporate collections.
