Description
The painting depicts elements taken from the artist’s studio and personal life. Bold in stature, vivid colors, and uncomplicated, are the two amaryllis seen here standing side-by-side in upright and open attention. The amaryllis has special significance in Jim McVicker’s life. He received his first plant from a friend at the time of announcing his wedding engagement, and since then, each spring the artist celebrates his anniversary with a pair of amaryllis to symbolize the couple's love for one another. The Oriental carpet adds texture and creates an intriguing backdrop to the scene as it meanders and folds, and seems to protrude from its plane. The design in the carpet is also part of the story, as the weave relates to the story of Paradise and the Garden of Eden. The artist’s ability to project a three-dimensional effect is particularly brilliant in this oil painting, Two Amaryllis.

Jim McVicker
Upon seeing 19th-century French landscapes at the age of twenty-one, Jim McVicker had an awakening to art. The beauty and sensitivity saw in those works changed his he perception of the world. McVicker started studying art history, painted copies of French Impressionist landscapes, and enrolled in life drawing and painting classes at Chaffey Community College. In 1975 he decided to become a full-time painter. He moved from Ontario, California, where he was raised, to Northern California, searching for and finding a quieter, more rural lifestyle. He met and worked with several highly-accomplished artists, painting landscapes on location daily, or painting in the studio, always working from the still-life setup or models. He learned from direct observation of nature, by looking at and studying notable art from the past, and working alongside more developed artists. In 1984, McVicker met his wife and fellow artist, Terry. Today, the couple live in Loleta, California, a small rural town just south of Eureka, where McVicker continues to paint daily, following his passion for painting from life, trying to capture the light, atmosphere, space, and mysterious beauty all around us. His awards include the 2018 Artist Choice Award Maui Plein Air Invitational; 2017 1st place in the plein air category of the Art Renewal Center International Salon Competition as well as three honorable mentions in the plein air category and a finalist in the still life category; 2017 Best Composition, Best West Coast Artist, Best New Artist to Easton Plein Air Festival, Easton Maryland; 2016 and 2014 Best of Show at the Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational; 2015Gold Medal for Painting, California Art Club’s 104th Gold Medal Exhibition held at USC Fisher Museum of Art; 2015 First Place, PleinAir Magazine Salon Competition. Jim McVicker is a Signature Artist Member of the California Art Club.

"'Autumn Roses' encapsulates a haunting narrative, merging nature's poignant cycle. Within a softly lit room, where a glass pitcher, once filled with life, cradles a bouquet of withered roses. Amidst this tableau, a dance of warm candlelight weaves an intimate and reflective ambiance. I invite the viewer to discover solace within the delicate harmony of life and decay, symbolized through a visual tapestry of contrasts: a vibrant peach beside faded roses, radiant candles amidst subtle decay, and the whispered promise of untold stories held within a closed book."

Red Amaryllis, American Realist Artist, Floral Painting, Representational, Framed
Located in Houston, TX
Red Amaryllis is painted in the style of American Realism. Red Amaryllis has a custom archival frame.Red amaryllis symbolizes passion, love and attraction.
According to Greek mythology, the amaryllis originated from the love Amaryllis had for Alteo. Amaryllis, a maiden, fell in love with the shepherd Alteo. He was strong and handsome, and had a passion for flowers. To learn how to win his affection, Amaryllis went to the Oracle of Delphi for advice.
On the Oracle’s orders, she stood in front of Alteo’s house for thirty nights piercing her heart with a golden arrow. On the thirtieth night, a beautiful flower grew from her blood and helped her win Alteo’s love.

Amaryllis with Lemon / oil on canvas
By Willard Dixon
Located in Burlingame, CA
Amaryllis with Lemon in a white ceramic pot sits atop a white table with river rocks, in this still life painting from American realist artist, Willard Dixon, who says "the charm of Still Life painting for the artist lies in the ability to manipulate one's subject matter and in the intimate, direct nature of the painting process. It is very much a studio-centric activity, complete and self-sufficient. The objects that one works with do seem to take on a life of their own, both by themselves and in their affinity for one another. They have a history, a patina, they may be new, or world-weary."
Best known for painting the American landscape and captivating the spirit of the West, with its grand and humble spirit, Willard Dixon also paints slill lifes, using objects from his own collection of bottles, dominoes, dice, cups and saucers. His work can be found in numerous distinctive private and public collections, as well as the San Francisco Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Oakland Museum of Contemporary Art.
'Amaryllis with Lemon' is a sunny and delightful work with a meditative and warm glow, in red, green. white and yellow. 47 x 42 inches. Artist signed. condition excellent.
