About the Item
Born in Fife, John Houston is known for his devotion to landscape, particularly the rugged Scottish coast. Like his wife, Elizabeth Blackadder, Houston taught at the Edinburgh College of Art until the 1980s. He was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy in 1972 and exhibited widely. He was influenced by studying under William Gillies and Robert Henderson Blyth and the companionship of fellow artists such as David Michie.
