About the Item
An oil painting of a vase of flowers atop a windowsill. An antique radiator takes space beneath the windowsil. The window is flanked by pink patterned drapes. The paned window gives a historic quality to the structure. The outdoor scenery consists of a small neighboring house, tall green coniferous evergreen trees. The overall palette is a cool lilac, with soft hints of warm pinks and green.
Framed in a simple white floating frame.
20.25 x 12.25 inches, framed.
Kelly Carmody (b. 1977, Massachusetts) Rooted in realism, Carmody’s compositions start very traditional in subject and composition; however, she further transforms her skilled hand by painting a single subject in multiple mediums and palettes and then using her sketches reference; Carmody’s process has unearthed a unique point of view that feels both contemporary and harkens back to the studio’s of Henri Matisse, or Pierre Bonnard. Carmody has created a world that is beautiful, pleasant, and abundant. Carmody’s paintings play with this tension between flatness and depth as she translates subject into sketch, sketch into painting, and painting into another painting. She often selects compositions with distant backgrounds, close foregrounds, and complex middle-ground subject matter. The spaces are skillfully done, attributing a similar level of detail to each plane, yet remaining distinct with clear relationships. To achieve this level of cohesion in complexity speaks to Carmody’s restraint and skill for impressionism. The women in Carmody’s paintings are pensive, often lost in thought, settled onto chairs near unfinished activities; an open book downfacing on her lap, arms crossed near a bowl of cut fruit, a butter knife left on an empty plate. Surrounded by a rich palette and soft light, the figures in these paintings have a relaxed, contented, contemplative ease that vibrates from the painting and into the space around them.

"Water, Roses, Window, Table" bright and airy contemporary impressionist scene
By Ben Fenske
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
"Water, Roses, Window, Table" is a bright and airy contemporary impressionist scene. A large oil painting of an open window's view to the outdoors, painted from an interior of the artist's home in Tuscany. Situated in the kitchen, facing the window, the walls and room appear dark, as they are backlit from the bright daylight streaming in. A small glass vase of roses sit centrally in our view, on the table's surface, glowing with blue light. A small tumbler, or glass of water, sits in the foreground, almost lost within Fenske's loose, wild brushstrokes. Urgent, loose brushstrokes connote impressionism, and bring to mind modern...

This painting is an exquisite example of the artist's unique ability to capture the very whimsical side of nature. Widely known for painting expansive views of the Hudson Valley where the artist often embarks on extensive hiking trails, Konigsberg also takes to painting more intimate and commonplace household objects. A coffee pot, salt and pepper shaker, or as in this case, a simple bouquet of long stemmed pink peonies careening over the side of a green vase; his use of oil washes capture both fluidity and structure. The fanciful treatment of the flowers calls to mind French Impressionist Toulouse Latrec...
