Ship Breaking
By Willard Dixon
Located in Burlingame, CA
'Ship Breaking' by Willard Dixon. These paintings are generally taken from small black and white newspaper photos from Willard Dixon’s daily reading of the news. Dixon changes the images somewhat by cropping them, taking things out, adding color, etc. But the image is definitely something seen originally by someone else. “I must say”, says Dixon, “I have rather strong feelings about these images myself. I see them at least in part as an homage to the intrepid photographers on the front lines who are telling truth to the world about what’s actually going on out there.”

Two Boats and a Can
By Mary Robertson
Located in Burlingame, CA
“Mary Robertson’s joyous and meditative paintings are are colorful simulations of contentment and sacred play.” Wayne Thiebaud.
Steeped in the Bay Area figurative movement, Mary Robertson’s oeuvre focuses on an area she knows intimately—Northern California's Russian River, where she has been painting for over 25 years. The region’s beaches, umbrellas, floats, and figures are iconic in the quiet and intimate paintings of Robertson, but it is the afternoon Bay Area light that takes center stage, as it interacts with the landscape to create the real magic. Her oil paintings and watercolors have an affinity with the American Realists, the Impressionists, and the Pointillists such as Seurat. When taking in a Robertson scene, there is a sense of time standing still, and being bathed in a lazy California summer glow that doesn’t fade.

Rigging the Line
By Lynette Cook
Located in Burlingame, CA
The subtle and brilliant work of art is meticulously hand painted by Lynette Cook, who realistically depicts scenes that she sees during her morning walks through the city, yet her paintings tend to reveal more than what initially meets the eye.
Exterior facades of urban dwellings that are both architecturally complex — and mundane — are the focus of Cook’s Shadows and Silhouettes series of contemporary photorealistic acrylic paintings that capture San Francisco and other Northern California towns and convey the stories of their inhabitants. The paintings often feature the rhythmic dark-light dance of light traveling through wrought-iron balconies and inner-city fire escapes, and captures that which is universal and connects all people in their elemental desire to create a sense of home.
