About the Item
This softly colored pastel of summer roses is superbly rendered by important French symbolistt artist De Scevola. He studied at the atelier Cormon and exhibited first with the Artistes Francais and then became a member of the Société National des Beaux-Arts where he achieved significant recognition. He had a brilliant career during his time as a portraitist of important societal standing such as the duchesse d’Uzes, the duchesse de Brissac and the duc de Massa and was a master at handling pastel in the tradition of Degas and Redon, yet in a clean contemporary manner.
This work has a rare and lovely color palette and unusual framing of exceptional quality that makes it singular in appearance for today's environment!
