"White poppies and magenta wisteria against a rustic white wall panel set the stage for this encounter. Is it mutual recognition? The prelude to predatory pursuit? A playful moment? It's the attitude of the viewer that determines the nature of the experience."

—Mary Kay West
Mary Kay West was born in Asheville, North Carolina in 1954 to parents that encouraged her artistic expression from the earliest age. Her mother was an established watercolorist and father an intellectual academic. An idyllic childhood fell to a rebellious adolescence. West left home, moved across the United States, and became a mother herself at the age of sixteen. With only a 9th grade education and the responsibilities of early motherhood, she was able to complete her education. She obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical and School Psychology and practiced for fourteen years. The artistic and creative urge finally came to the surface in the mid-1980’s when West became a clothing and accessory designer of wearable art that was carried by Macy’s and Nordstrom department stores. By 1990, world-famous fresco artist Benjamin F. Long IV moved to Asheville and opened an atelier to carry on the classical realist tradition. Mary Kay West was accepted as an apprentice and completed her studies specializing in Still Life and Landscape painting in 1994. That same year, she moved to Santa Barbara, California to be nearer her daughter. Since then, West’s work has been exhibited extensively in California, and is distinguished by her passion for birds as she portrays them in her inimitable trompe l’oeil style. Throughout West’s journey as a psychologist and as an artist, the practice and science of Yoga has been a constant. She has been an avid practitioner and teacher, rising to the level of master instructor. Her spiritual and metaphysical practice is the foundation of her creative expression. Mary Kay West now lives, practices, teaches and paints in Guadalupe, California.

“The magnolia tree and I share common rots in the Southeast. The Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee are home to us both. This stately, ancient tree is native to the Southeast. Its large fragrant blossoms and dark, shiny leaves adorn the green lawns and line the streets of the small towns where I am from. So, when I moved to California, I was pleasantly surprised to see this icon from the South growing freely here as well! This paining, with its representatives from the Southeast (the Magnolia and Blue Jay) and the West (the Plums and Persimmons) shows how roots can expand and grow to embrace new beginnings.”

The Stillness of Morning
By Ginny Williams
Located in Wenham, MA
This piece is an original oil painting on linen canvas. It features a beautiful bouquet of summer flowers: carnations, chrysanthemums, geraniums, foxglove, all arranged in a blue and white vase. The early morning lights gently washes over the arrangement from the left, casting lyrical shadows on the wall behind. A peaceful portrait of a beautiful, ephemeral moment.
GC Williams has a degree in art history which gave her an understanding of, and appreciation for, not only the art of the past, but the historical events and ideologies that fostered various aesthetics, movements, and styles.
She has studied at several classical ateliers, including three years at Boston's Academy of Realist Art. Her work has been shown in galleries throughout the US and is included in public and private collections. She maintains a studio on the north shore of Massachusetts.
"My work is about the little moments of beauty that comprise our existence: the greening of the landscape in early spring, the glint of light on an object; growing things and made objects. I enjoy creating interesting interactions, and making up narratives. I love the way light animates objects...
