Abstract expressionist sea, shore, landscape scene with white, blue and orange
By Claude Howard Stuart
Located in Woodbury, CT
English Abstract expressionist Seascape, shore, and landscape, in Blue, Red, white, and Orange tones, A wonderful abstract expressionist scene depicting the sun setting over the sea. Stuart is an English painter who spends his time between American and the UK. He paints in different mediums depending on the subject he's paintings. This is an exceptional example of his latest abstract work. Before any paint is applied Stuart lays a thin coat of a clay-like substance, this he then scratches and drawers into. After that layer dries he paints many coats of paint that are applied and then removed giving the piece a unique effect and style. He has been influenced by the works of Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Lee Krasner, James Brooks, Albert Kotin...

20th Century Oil painting, a View of Chinese Junks at sea.
By Ken Moroney
Located in Woodbury, CT
20th Century Oil painting of an Impressionist scene of Chinese Junks at sea. Moroney was born on the 14th of February 1949 in South London. Of Anglo Irish parentage, his father was typical of his generation and worried about Ken’s artistic temperament which he viewed as effeminate. As a result, Ken took up boxing and won a gold medal for South London in his teens. His art continued to flourish with his trademark striking use of color. His main medium oils and he favors romantic subjects of Edwardian times. Ken has traveled extensively and spent 2 years working for major galleries in New York. The Royal Academy nominated him in 1976 as being one of the few promising young artists to emerge this century: "Ken Moroney has considerable talent, any painting purchased now can only be seen as a sound long term investment." Ken Moroney's work now hangs in many important collections and has had paintings exhibited at The Royal Academy (London), and the Kline Galleries (Canada). The painting came from a private collection and previously came from Duncan Miller...

Monterey Pier
By Gregory Kondos
Located in San Francisco, CA
Untitled (Cityscape) is an oil on canvas created by Gregory Kondos (American, b. 1923), one of the world's most prominent California landscape artists. The artwork is signed in the lower right corner and was created circa 1950. The canvas size is 24 x 47.75 inches. Overall in good condition. Framed in a gold wooden frame. The size including frame is 33 x 56.75 inches. Gregory Kondos has spent decades depicting California’s unique, majestic beauty, from its rolling farmland to its varied coastline, to the forests and peaks of Yosemite, where he has often served as artist-in-residence. He has been drawn as well to the deserts around Santa Fe, and to Europe, especially Greece, the country from which his parents emigrated. Now in his nineties, he is celebrated as one of the world’s foremost landscape painters, known for his light-filled palette and intuitive, organic forms that seem like effortless extensions of nature. Kondos describes his paintings as possessing a sense of quietude and cleanliness while maintaining a necessary lonely quality: “Less is more…and what is left out makes the picture more understandable.” His distilled images tend to feature a solitary element—a lone boat, a mountain peak, a house standing away from the others—that projects a contemplative sense of being alone in thought. His simple yet lively palette and elegant lines, influenced by artists like Willem de Kooning, Cezanne, and Gauguin, allow us to place ourselves within the space of the painting. Chief curator and associate director at Sacramento’s Crocker Art Museum, Scott A. Shields, who organized “A Touch of Blue: Landscapes by Gregory Kondos” at the museum in 2013, remarks: “His paintings simultaneously celebrate the terrain's inherent formal, abstract properties, as well as the beautiful possibilities of the paint itself." Kondos’ lifelong achievements place him in the great tradition of American landscape painters such as Albert Bierstadt, Edward Hopper, and Georgia O’Keefe. He has won numerous prizes and awards, including a lifetime achievement award from International Bienniale in Florence, Italy, and has been elected to the National Academy of Design in New York. Collections of Kondos’ work are displayed in museums around the world, including the Shanghai Art Museum in China, the Phoenix Art Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The gallery at Sacramento City...
