Artist Bio: Adele Riley as a British-born artist living in Gloucestershire, I'm surrounded by some of the most natural and inspiring surroundings in the UK, well-placed to benefit from a huge variety of light, texture, and drama – perfect for what I do. I usually begin by sensing the subject, sometimes using a photo or a sketch to extract weather, light, horizons and shapes to commit the scene to canvas with a variety of media and paint. What I fear most is repetition, so I experiment a lot with media and colour, asking questions of the fresh and the new, trying things out (getting things wrong), but all the time learning and looking to improve. Having studied Illustration at Epsom School of Art, I have always continued to learn and develop from my experiences and travels. Not having a formal arts grounding I found to be a positive thing, as I could appreciate painting by it’s many disciplines. I learned more by challenging the rules of fine art, as well as applying them. It helped drive my enthusiasm until I arrived at a style of painting that represents me as an artist. In addition to painting, I teach art to adults and children both through my business based in Gloucester, and in surrounding local schools.

Looking Up Through Cherry Blossom to Reflect by Emily Finch [2021] Signed by the artist Oil on canvas board Image size: H:30 cm x W:30 cm x D 0.3cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look This painting is part of a series called Look Up Trees. Emz spends time with trees daily to help her mind heal from PTSD in 2021. She has 'grown' over 140 trees in oil paint and digitally on her ipad. The mindful painting process she's established helps her to recognise and work through some difficult emotions. She's currently working on ways she can share these tools with others through a mindful sketching practice. Emz Finch, Artist, Painter, Emz has always been hugely inspired by the natural world, growing up on a farm in Wiltshire, South West England. At school, Emz was the art scholar and pushed the boundaries of what was possible in terms of scale and ambition for her art projects with her art teachers, making sculpture and installations which were deeply conceptual. At the age of 18, Emz became disabled overnight after a failed hip replacement and was left in a wheelchair. The decision was taken to abandon her dreams to go to art college, so she obtained a degree and went on to have a successful career in the City and then in TV, career highlights including working with David Attenborough on 7 productions. Emz found her painting again after her daughter was born in 2017. She embarked on a foundation at the London Fine Art Studios and won a scholarship to the Creative Visionary Programme in 2019. After hosting a sellout open house that same year, Emz spent the 2020 lockdown painting a series called #GreenLondon, celebrating the green spaces all around her in London. The paintings from this series were exhibited at my local David Lloyd gym at Raynes Park during COVID restrictions. Since 2020, Emz also has an active commission book selling gifts of landscapes that could not be visited during lockdown – these paintings helped people celebrate love, commemorate deaths and remember family time that was much missed. Since March 2021 Emz has been growing her forest of trees in memory of the losses, she suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic. She aims to use this work to raise awareness about mental health...

  • Ocean Echo - Illuminated Paper Lanterns Adrift On Ocean Waves, Acrylic On Panel
    By Christina Haglid
    Located in Chicago, IL
The fragility of the environment has always played an important role in Christina Haglid's work. As a child growing up on the East Coast, the ever changing seaside landscapes intrigued her. This fragile balance between nature and her subject matter is as delicate as a paper lantern set adrift upon the sea. "Ocean Echo" captures this delicate balance in a an exquisitely executed painting . Two paper lanterns emanate a warm glow, as they cast rays of gold upon the water's surface. This acrylic painting is on a cradled panel which is beautiful on its own or can be floated in a frame. Contact the gallery for framing options. Christina Haglid Ocean Current acrylic on panel 6h x 6w in 15.24h x 15.24w cm CMH043 Artist's Statement Tiny Sanctuaries There has always been an intersection between the process of writing and the act of painting in my work. It has somehow been my guide. In the last four years, during the making of this work, that connection intensified as I started writing short stories and flash fiction while taking online classes. I find the process of writing and painting so different in almost every way, but there is something freeing and generative in writing which helps my painting process. Or perhaps it's a reminder of what painting is for me - something intuitive that needs to be trusted. And what they do have in common is a desire to encapsulate and distill a single moment, a story, about the complexity of our emotions and experiences. At the heart of my work is the recurring depiction of perseverance, strength of will, and a subtle optimism. Symbolically through the objects, precarious situations depict a moment of possible difficulty, often involving the influence of nature. A paper crane left in the snow. A boat nearly filled to the brim, but not submerged and able to drain its own contents carefully. A slide alone at night...
