About the Item
This contemporary abstract Impressionist painting, infused with elements of Expressionism and Art Brut, was created by French artist Natalya Mougenot as part of her ongoing series dedicated to still life floral compositions.
Titled "Summer Red Apples and Red Flowers," this vibrant piece features a lively bouquet of red summer flowers in a striking blue vase, accompanied by two red apples resting nearby. The composition celebrates the warmth and abundance of the summer season through the simple yet symbolic beauty of flowers and fruit.
“Still life painting has always felt like a quiet space for me.
A way to slow down and really look at simple, everyday things—flowers in a vase, the way light falls across a table.”
Natalya is drawn to these seemingly ordinary subjects because they allow her to explore emotion through movement and color. It’s never just about the objects—it’s about the atmosphere, the mood, the story they carry.
“I’m drawn to these subjects because they give me room to explore emotion through color and movement. It’s never just about the objects—it’s about the feeling they carry.”
Her painting process is intuitive and expressive, led by emotion and guided by a deep trust in instinct and experimentation.
“I worked rapidly, vividly, and freely, guided by the mood of my hands. I trust the process completely and embrace full experimentation, allowing creativity to lead the way and reveal the final result.”
For this piece in particular, Natalya was inspired by the boldness of Matisse.
“With this piece, I was especially inspired by Matisse and his fearless use of color. I wanted the scene to feel alive and full of energy from the very first glance. I let bold reds and deep greens take the lead, trusting them to tell the story.”
Beyond aesthetics, her work is always rooted in honesty and emotional connection.
“For me, painting is not about decoration—it’s about connection.
Each brushstroke reflects something I felt in the moment. It’s my way of being honest—of turning what I see and what I feel into something others might also connect with.”
“I don’t paint for trends or markets. I paint what feels true to me. And I always hope my work finds someone who feels that truth too.”

Natalya is a contemporary artist from Lyon, France. She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes and low mountains. She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country. She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis when she was struggling with radical life changes. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now. Several years ago painting became more than a hobby. It became a way of expressing her emotions and visions, a successive reaction to events of either personal or general concern. Her artist statement: “ I paint as it’s a necessity for my soul to express itself. Being creative for me is overcoming the restrictions. My art is a piece of my soul. I hope my art inspires reflection, provides a release and forms connection at other people’s souls”. She has developed her own vision of art through practicing a lot. She makes use of varying degrees of figuration, abstraction and impressionism by adding a contemporary twist. Abstract art for her is an interesting challenge for understanding inner feelings, a self-expression based on an intuitive approach. In figurative art her main subject remains women. Her artworks representing women contain the raw emotions of women. She also communicates the importance and the power of strong female relationships: “Women are enriched when they bond with each other”. She works in series: among them are "Heart-mind connection" of abstract artworks, "Women", "Bond", "Florals", "Springtime"... She uses various mediums ( acrylic, oil, watercolor, oil pastels) to create her unique artworks either on canvas or on paper. But she mainly uses acrylic as she works very quickly and expressively by finishing her artwork in one sitting. If Natalya had to pick one quote about her art, she would say : " Art is the reflection of the soul". Natalya goes with her gut and intuition to choose the colors, the lines, the shapes and the texture. She hopes her artworks will give a home a unique personality by filling it with life and color. Her sources of inspirations are Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, George-Daniel de Monfreid, Paul Gauguin. She also admires the artworks of Joan Mitchell and Banksy.
