ARTIST BIOGRAPHY;
Explore artist Pippa Smith works with Wychwood Art. Pippa Smith is a London based, self-taught artist whose energetic still life paintings are characterised by bold and playful colours, and aim to transport the viewer to the warmth and serenity of the Mediterranean. With a fresh take on the traditional artistic genre of the still life, her works are whimsical and expressive, with a focus predominantly on seafood and the pleasure of the kitchen table. They are a joyful celebration of her Hispanic heritage and her Abuela's excellent cooking.
Having studied History of Art at Edinburgh University, Pippa went on to work in a contemporary gallery as a dealer, but it was the lockdown of 2020 where her true passion for painting flourished and her unique artistic language was born. Now based in London, Pippa continues to create quirky and contemporary works fit for any house, whether a villa in the Med or a country cottage in the Cotswolds.

- Throwing Some Shapes I, II, III Triptych, Original Naïve Still Life PaintingLocated in Deddington, GBA series of paintings exploring the dynamic and expressive shapes of pot plants. I love the way that nature expresses itself; plants often remind me of dancers, but being rooted in solid earth or a heavy pot their 'moves' seem to express an un-self-conscious celebration of life, and a contented acceptance of their earthbound limitations. Henry is now a freelance artist & designer concentrating more time to his painting. Artist and painter Henry Walsh comments “My work begins with snapshots of busy city life and by a process of elimination I refocus the image on elements that encapsulate a sober thoughtfulness." "Scattered throughout the hustle and bustle of concrete life, like pools among the rocks, are the parks and squares that provide us with a place to breathe and a time to think. It is a fundamental need of a sane society to be able to stop once in a while and wander from the routine, lift our heads and look at the sky or take in our regular surroundings with a fresh insight.” “Sitting on the top deck of a London bus, I let my mind stroll over the lives of the people on the street, they obtain new life stories; I’m placing myself in their shoes...Category

- Incredible Edible Flower Cake, Bright Still Life Food Art, Contemporary Pop ArtLocated in Deddington, GBA joyful depiction of a towering celebration cake decorated in edible wild flowers. This painting has a great deal of texture, vibrancy and character. Kerry Louise Bennett, artist and painter, has original artworks available with Wychwood Art in our gallery and online. Working from her home studio in Sheffield, Kerry Louise Bennett (b.1972) makes colourful paintings loaded with texture and pattern. Her previous lives working in set design, upholstery and photography, and her passion for music and literature, all feed into the semi-abstract interior and still life compositions she paints. In one sense the objects painted and the relationships between them can be seen as arbitrary, necessary only to serve a sense of spatial orchestration, and the abstract sensibility of a process-led artist, however, an element of romance and storytelling always seems to emerge in her charming characterful paintings. Colour and composition, strong mark-making and the pure materiality of paint drive my creative practice, but of course everything I make reveals something of me - the introvert, the observer, the dreamer. I work over multiple layers before finding the story the painting wants to tell. In some ways I feel like the conductor of an unruly orchestra - there is a musicality to my work, and my visual vocabulary draws on the everyday to capture a kind of unconscious narrative that transforms chaos into calm, worry into joy, the mundane to the magical. Kerry says of herself: I am obsessed with colour first and foremost – it’s impact is so visceral, but mark making is also important – usually expressed through pattern and the shapes of things often scratched into the surface of the paint, with textures then built up over many layers. My visual vocabulary draws on the ordinary stuff of life - chairs, plants...Category

- Many Horse Shield Original Kevin Red Star Acrylic Crow Native American WesternBy Kevin Red StarLocated in Whitefish, MT"Many Horse Shield" by Kevin Red Star. Original Acrylic painting on Canvas, 48" x 30", 51" x 33" (framed). Crows were known for their exceptionally well-trained horses; each having specific skills i.e. hunting, warring, parade, and working with women and children, or moving camp. Kevin Red Star’s art is honored throughout Native America for its authenticity. It presents a shining vision of centuries-old Crow (Apsaalooka) culture through the eyes of a thoroughly contemporary consciousness. In the world of museums and private collections, he is equally respected for the content of his unique imagery, for his artistic productivity, and for the enduring value of his work. Kevin Red Star grew up on the Crow reservation in southern Montana, a member of a highly creative family. He was known as the go-to artist for all school projects. He was chosen to be in the first group of students at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe in the late sixties, when the founders personally visited Native villages and reservations nationwide and recruited the most talented youngsters from each. The school provided a learning environment of tribal tradition, world art history, and current trends. Open studios, well stocked with supplies, encouraged individual experimentation and collaboration. Students mined their ancient customs for content, and then created exciting new forms to provide current relevance. Red Star and some of his friends in their graduating class continued their studies at the San Francisco Art Institute before embarking on their careers. They attracted immediate notice in New York and Paris, as well as established art centers throughout the United States. And they went on to change the face of modern Indian art...Category
