A. Rigollot
Kaleidoscope Abstract Still Life Post-Cubist Oil Painting by A. Rigollot

1960

About the Item

This incredible post-cubist and colorist still life oil on board painting was designed by A. Rigollot (France, 20th Century). Colorist paintings are characterized by intense color use, which becomes the dominant characteristic of the resulting work of art, more important than its other qualities. This tendency in painting was foreshadowed by The French Impressionism Movement, in the late 19th Century and came to prominence in the work of The Fauvists in the early 20th Century. It has since surfaced in a wide range of individual styles and art movements outside of France, the most prominent being the Scottish Colorists, Polish Colorists, and American Color Field abstract painters. This painting features a kaleidoscope view of a still-life composition on a coffee table built with a vase, a bowl with fruits, and a cigarette in an ashtray. A surprising and extremely colorful execution where the colors define the painter's vision of his world. The "trembling" technique of execution was quite unusual and very specific. The painting is signed in the bottom right corner: A. Rigollot - 03/1960. Newly reframed in an elegantly black high gloss wood frame. (For information, the last picture is the back of the board before being reframed). Measurements: With the frame: 17.50 in. wide (44.5 cm) x 12.19 in. high (31 cm). Opening view: 15.38 in. wide (39 cm) x 10.25 in. high (26 cm).
