About the Item

Still Life with Purple Echinops Globe Thistle Flowers in a Pewter Tankard, set within a Rustic French Farmhouse Interior by 20th Century Artist, Robert Chailloux (1913-2006). Art measures 10 x 13.5 inches Frame measures 18 x 21 inches The blue flower depicted in the painting is a globe thistle (Echinops). Globe thistles are known for their distinctive spherical blooms, typically in shades of blue or purple, and are often used in floral arrangements and artwork for their unique shape and vibrant color. Their architectural form adds an elegant yet rustic touch to the composition. Robert Chailloux is considered by many to be one of the finest Still Life painters of the 20th Century. Chailloux always manages to avoid any formal arrangement in his compositions, which consequently have a delightfully homely atmosphere. His colour sense and superb technique are beyond question, and it is not surprising that his reputation is so high. Chailloux was born in Paris on 23rd April, 1913. He was a pupil of the “Cours Superieurs de Dessin des Ecoles de la Ville de Paris”, and later at the “Ecole des Arts Decoratifs”. He exhibited for many years at all the principal Salons in France, including the Salon National des Beaux Arts, the Salon de la Marine and the Salon d’Automne. His work has also been exhibited in Great Britain, Switzerland, Belgium, America and Canada, as well as in Moscow in 1975 at the Museum Pouchkine, and then in Leningrad at the Hermitage Museum. Chailloux’s paintings have been acquired by the City of Paris, and the Museum of the Ile de France. He was a member of the “Societe de la Salon de l’Art Libre”, the “Salon des Artistes Francais”, and the “Salon d’Hiver”. He was also elected to be an Officer of the “Arts, Sciences et Lettres.” His biography can be found in all of the renowned Art Dictionaries of the World including Benezit, Kunster-lexicon and Who’s Who. Chailloux sadly passed away at the end of 2006 yet today, his paintings can be found in private collections all over the World.

Flower Still Life with Dahlias, Oil on Canvas, Gaston Geleyn, Dated 1934
Located in Casteren, Noord-Brabant
Flower still life with dahlias, in beautiful, vibrant colors. Oil on canvas. The round format is very unusual. Frame and canvas are an original whole. The painting is signed in the paint on the lower right and dated, 1934. The painting is framed behind anti-reflective glass, which means that the colors are beautifully preserved. The frame is subtly carved in Art Deco style. A similar painting by the same painter is depicted in an old exhibition book by this painter. See picture. His work work has also been purchased by various museums. The book about Gaston Geleyn is beautifully illustrated, 170 pages and it is about the life and work of the artist. The book was published in 1933. Book is supplied with the painting. More information about the Gaston Geleyn follows below. Source: Paul Piron 'Art in Belgium'. GELEYN, Gaston (Brussels, 1892 - Grimbergen 1949). Painter. Stayed with a great uncle in Paris until he was 16 years old. After a short stay in Brussels, he returned to Paris and attended classes at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts led by Roll and Flaming. After the First World War he traveled the world and stayed in America, India and North Africa, among other places. He was under contract from 1919 to 1929 by a Dutch art dealer. His first exhibition was at the 'Giroux' Gallery in Brussels in 1933. Geleyn painted landscapes, marines, figure still lifes and flowers. He also painted the portrait of King Albert I. He had studios in Grimbergen and in Ostend. In Ostend, he painted the sea in all its forms, from the sleeping silver-gray sea...
