About the Item
Tacky, Original Contemporary Botanical Marijuana Still Life Painting
20" x 16" x 1.5" (HxWxD) Oil on Canvas
Hand-signed by the artist.
This composition by artist Sarah Jacobs plays with the subject of marijuana, known colloquially as pot or weed, striking a balance between the fanciful depictions often associated with the plant and a more realistic approach. Straying away from the more cartoonish representations the plant often gets, Jacobs has imbued a sense of dignity to its botanical form while keeping an air of playfulness with the inclusion of glowing stars as a backdrop. The lighting on the leaves is dynamic, allowing for high contrast and a sense of drama to play through the composition.
Artist Commentary:
I noticed that a lot of pot art is not painted very well. I like some of the tropes of weed-art though, like how it is often floating, has sparkles around, and stark backgrounds. I wanted to keep those fun tropes, but paint the marijuana well and lovingly. It deserves the same attention to detail as other plants that I paint. I tilted this painting "Tacky,"" because it means both "in bad taste" and "sticky." Sticky is also an adjective applied to high quality marijuana.

Skull, Original Signed Contemporary Black and Green Painting
18" x 18" x 0.75" (HxWxD) Acrylic on Canvas
Hand-signed by the artist. Finished with a gloss varnish.
A black background allows the subject matter of this acrylic painting by artist Lindsay Hall, a human skull, to both pop forward and recede into the background. There is an amount of chiaroscuro happening on the left side of the skull, keeping it in shadow, falling into the depths. An item in a cabinet of curiosities, this memento mori work serves as a pausing point to sit and reflect on one's own mortality. The green tones to the white of the skull give this work an interesting dimensionality to it, almost imbuing it with life, ironically. The black background is reminiscent of artists like Caravaggio and the subject matter is highly reminiscent of Van Gogh's Skull of a Skeleton with a Burning Cigarette.
Artist Commentary:
I painted this when I lived in Richmond, VA above an oddities shop. Being in such close proximity to various curiosities like taxidermied animals, preserved animal organs, coffins, and the like definitely kept my mind in the spooky mood all year round. The building itself was black and had a giant grim reaper...

«My brother gave them a name» Still Life Oil Painting by Samantha Van Heest
By Samantha Van Heest
Located in Oslo, NO
This painting was inspired by the artists very first toy, a small blue giraffe, given to her as a day-old baby. It is something that has been around her whole life, and even though it is inanimate, there is a feeling of personification through the years of wear. Her brother as a baby would call giraffes “fa,” which is always a sweet memory she associate with this toy.

«Necklace» Figurative Oil Painting by Samantha Van Heest
By Samantha Van Heest
Located in Oslo, NO
This study takes inspiration from historical “reclining nude” paintings, most of which were painted through the perspective of the male gaze. The artist wanted to change the narrative and make the woman feel more empowered and dominant in her situation, aware of the power she holds.
