About the Item
Since August 2018 Sietse W. Jonker belongs to the group of artists that we permanently represent in our stock-exposition. In mid-2019, this still-life artist will take part in a group exhibition devoted to still life in painting. His work can be seen all year round and for sale through our gallery. To get to know us, we visited the artist in his studio in Leeuwarden. a centrally located donkey and a window on the Noorderlicht dominate the space together with the still life that he is currently working on. According to the artist, a still life should not be 'made to look', in the final painting it should ultimately be an ordered harmony. The artist himself: That is not always easy and sometimes I am busy with all kinds of objects here in the house. Every now and then something comes up or something is taken away again until I am satisfied. Usually I have a vague idea of what I want, but to give that 'vague idea' a concrete form is quite difficult. The idea then to create a three-dimensional world on a two dimensional level intrigues Sietse Jonker. With sticks with hairs on it, the brushes, and some colored paste, to create the paint, 'worlds' is an amazing event for him: a true miracle. The intention of a painting is difficult to define verbally: It is a clarification of something that can not be captured in words. Actually, a painting is a thought: the given image with the title could stimulate reflection. On the other hand, painting for Sietse Jonker is a centuries-old craft. It is a difficult subject that involves a lot and requires a lot of skill. But above all, it is great to discover that it is possible to suggest all kinds of fabric expressions and space with just paint. As a result, a painting provides lasting viewing pleasure.
