About the Item
The 1700s was the golden age of still life, particularly in Northern Europe (but also in Italy and Spain).
There is considerable demand for these kinds of paintings, mostly from a new audience of buyers from middle-class backgrounds.
The great increase in demand fosters a process of specialization, with the identification of 'sub-genres' related to the predominant content of cadres and with specific designations.
Artists, therefore, specialize in making still lifes that have as their theme food, or flowers, or musical instruments and other objects that constitute a particular type of still life, called vanitas (a theme, moreover, that still lifes in general often allude to).

To the shadowy world of the time the artist contrasts brightness and chromatic innovations, alternating with both stylistic and chromatic virtuosity and interweaving.
