About the Item

"The Last," a 2013 oil on canvas by Victoria Novak, is a testament to the timeless beauty and elegance of still life painting. Measuring 19.70 x 39.40 inches and framed to 21.70 x 41.40 inches, this elongated piece features a series of citrus fruits arrayed across a stone ledge, each fruit painted with meticulous care. Novak's skill in capturing the rough texture of the fruit's skin against the delicate, juicy segments of the citrus is on full display. The dark background serves to enhance the vivid oranges and yellows of the fruit, making them appear as if they are glowing from within. The careful arrangement of whole, halved, and peeled pieces, alongside the rich green leaves, speaks to a narrative of the life cycle of fruit—from ripeness to the final enjoyment. This painting invites viewers to appreciate the simple beauty of the fruit's form and the complex interplay of light and texture that Novak achieves with her brush. "The Last" is more than a painting; it's a sensory experience that brings the fragrance and tang of citrus to life in a visually stunning tableau, perfect for the collector who values the rich tradition of still life art. About the Artist: Realist painter Victoria Novak began her artistic career as an interior designer in her native Russia, where she graduated from the Academy of Arts. After a few years as a successful designer, she moved to Europe where she earned a Master Degree in Interior and Living Design from Domus Academy in Milan. After that, she started working in the studio Fuksas in Rome. A move to Rome, where her love for Italian Renaissance developed, inspired Victoria to devote herself to painting. Of adopting the time-honored techniques, Victoria says: “At first it was more out of curiosity, but in the end, I discovered a method that helps me to realize my ideas in the most satisfying way.” Working with incredible attention to detail, color and form, Victoria paints portraits and still lifes that deliver drama and beauty in organic, natural ways. She currently lives in Italy, where she continues to develop as an artist and illustrator. In 2018 she became an Adobe Partner joining the “Start with Stock” program for Adobe Stock. Victoria’s work has been featured in “International Artist Magazine”, “American Art Collector” and included in numerous juried exhibitions. Her paintings can also be found in private collections in Russia, Malta, Italy, Switzerland and the U.S.

"The Genesis of Femininity" Oil Painting
By Kelly Birkenruth
Located in Denver, CO
Kelly Birkenruth's (US based) "The Genesis of Femininity" is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts a still life of two green granny smith apples and a halved egg shell in situ with a smaller than life bronze statue of a feminine figure. Kelly Birkenruth’s captivating paintings are in the style of contemporary realism while staying firmly grounded in the tradition of the Old Masters. She is able to pull the viewer into her paintings by interweaving emotion with a humanistic quality through her supreme handling of light. Through her portraits and still lifes she is able to evoke sensitivity and empathy, which in turn allows her to create images which transcend mere representation to capture the true essence of her subject. Kelly’s arresting compositions, draftsmanship, use of color and observation of detail allow her to create paintings with a timeless quality. After earning her degree from Pennsylvania State University, Kelly moved to southern California where she began a career as a fashion model. Her agency soon sent her abroad to Paris and Tokyo, where she spent the next several years modeling. When she wasn’t walking the runway, she spent endless hours in the great museums of the world, closely observing and studying the works of the Old Masters. “My time abroad, particularly in Paris, opened my eyes to the vast beauty and power of a great painting. After that I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to the pursuit of Fine Art” said Birkenruth. After returning to the States, Kelly studied at Otis College of Art in Los Angeles, CA. She then continued her studies through workshops and private study with renowned artists such as Daniel Sprick, Steven Assael and Jesus Emmanuel Villarreal. In the spring of 2019...

Citrus III
By Randall Mooers
Located in Fairfield, CT
My paintings begin with a serious sense of play, both in the staging and the creating of the compositions. It is at this beginning stage that I operate under the Dadaist dictate that “anything can be art”, and at the same time I seek out a balanced and harmonious composition by way of line, shape, and color. I work according to my whimsy, sometimes seeking to assert some form of narrative however personal or ambiguous, and other times I am simply satisfied with the hint of a human presence. Once I have my compositions the paintings then very quickly become about work, a very labor intensive work that forces me to focus my mind and slow things down (which I feel is relevant especially in this day and age of high-speed everything). A great amount of effort is spent on trying to get to the highest level of finish that is possible according to my current skill level. For inspiration I have drawn from the past four centuries of object specific paintings, from the ontbijtjes (laid tables) of the 17th Century Dutch masters such as Willem Kalf, Jan Davidsz de Heem, Abraham van Beijeren...
