About the Item

Vincent Clare (1855–1930) was a British artist celebrated for his meticulous still-life paintings, particularly those featuring fruits. His works are renowned for their vibrant colours, intricate textures, and lifelike detail. One notable example is his oil painting with a still Life of apples, plums and grapes in a basket, which showcases Clare's exceptional skill in rendering natural elements. The composition features a woven basket brimming with ripe apples, plums, and grapes. The fruits are depicted with remarkable realism, capturing their glossy skins and subtle colour variations. The background is a soft, earthy tone that complements the vivid hues of the fruit, enhancing the overall harmony of the piece. The painting is signed by Clare, reflecting his mastery of the still-life genre during the late 19th century. Clare's works, including this painting, are highly regarded for their technical precision and the artist's ability to imbue everyday subjects with a sense of elegance and timelessness.
