1981 Original poster by Roger Bezombes - Air France - Aviation - Liberty
Located in PARIS, FR
In the early 1980s, Air France commissioned Roger Bezombes, famous for his sculptures and paintings, to create original artworks capturing Air France’s spirit. He produced a series of 16 colorful photo collages that were printed at Atelier Mourlot. These graphic works were executed using lithography, typography, and embossing with metallic inks.
These posters were revolutionary. Inspired by surrealism, they depict concepts rather than destinations and evoke the mysteries and joys of air travel. Far ahead of their time, they were only released by Air France and exhibited for the first time at the Pompidou Museum of Modern Art ten years after...

Enrico Donati, a surrealist and abstract expressionist painter, was born in Milan, Italy in 1909 and died in Manhattan on April 25, 2008. He was known for his association with the surrealist movement of the 1940's, but his artwork continued to transform itself through the many trends that have occurred during his long career.
In Italy he attended the Universita degli Studi in Pavia where he studied economics. In 1934, he moved to the United States settling in New York where he studied at the New School for Social Research and the Art Students' League.
Considered the surviving dean of the Surrealist Movement and a member of the New York School, Donati painted with Ernst, Matta and Tanguy in the thirties and forties, and in particular with Andre Breton, regarded by many to be the grand master of Surrealism.
He helped organize the Exposition Internationale du Surrealisme in Paris in 1947 where he exhibited three of his pieces. The Surrealists were known to avoid presenting or representing reality, and put the emphasis on invention and creativity by uncovering the poetic aspect of life with its kaleidoscopic multidimensional images, using reality only to enhance imagination.
Donati survived the decline of Surrealism in the late 1940's by adapting his style to current art trends as he worked with new materials and textures throughout the 1950's.
One trend with which he became involved was Abstract Expressionism, which originated in the 1940s, and became popular in the 1950s. It was a movement in which artists typically applied paint, rapidly and with force, to large canvases, in an effort to show feelings and emotions.
Paint might be applied with large brushes, sometimes dripping or even throwing it onto canvas. Abstract Expressionist work is characterized by a strong dependence on what appears to be accident and chance, although it is actually highly planned.
Donati held a retrospective at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels in 1961 and went on to exhibit at the Betty Parsons Gallery with other forerunners of American Abstract Expressionism: Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, and Jackson Pollock. It was at this time that Donati created some of his most inventive and extraordinary work, some of which was featured in a survey exhibition at the Alter & Gil Gallery, Beverly Hills, California, in January 2000.
He has held many teaching positions and has been an active lecturer, while continuing to add to his artistic repertoire. From 1960 to 1962 he was a Visiting Lecturer at Yale University, and from 1962 to 1972 a Member of the Yale University Council for the Arts and Architecture.
He has had seventy-five one-man shows, among them an exhibit of new paintings at the Maxwell Davidson Gallery (57th St., New York) in the fall of 1997. Donati's work is held in collections throughout the world, and his work has appeared in over 300 articles and publications, two hard cover books...

Atlantis, Large Surrealist Oil Painting. Viennese Fantastic Realism
By Peter Kolin
Located in Surfside, FL
Atlantis, A large spectacular nautical, marine magic fantasy. (without the frame it is 32X39 inches)
The roots for Peter Kolin’s fascinating world of Surrealist Fantasy, Magic Realist images can be traced back to the art of Mannerism, a brief period - approximately 1520 to 1610 - between the Renaissance and Age of the Baroque. In Mannerist paintings composition had no focal point and space could be ambiguous. Surreal figures could be characterized by athletic bending and twisting with distortions, exaggerations, elastic elongation of the limbs, bizarre or graceful posturing and the rendering of the heads as uniformly small and oval. (reminds me very much of some of the compositions of Salvador Dali) The composition was full of clashing symbolist colors very unlike the balanced, natural and often dramatic colors of the High Renaissance. Mannerist works presented instability and restlessness and also showed a fondness for allegories with lascivious undertones. Kolin, an exceptionally gifted painter within this tradition, creates gorgeous and mysterious fantasies of Surrealism with each work opening a new and more exciting fantastic world. His narrative world of images and symbols is presented in his own metaphorical language but with a visual accuracy solidly rooted in technical perfection. Today Kolin is a widely acclaimed artist of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. (Together with, Arik Erich Brauer, Ernst Fuchs, Rudolf Hausner...

Latin American , Brazilian Surrealist Painting Carlos Kis after Rene Magritte
By Carlos Kis
Located in Surfside, FL
Framed 28 X 28 sight 23 X 23
"Veterans", 1988,
paint, inlay, with monogram signature on formica board
Framed: 28 x 28 in. Sight: 22 1/2 x 22 1/2 in.
This painting is after Surrealist master Rene Magritte. It depicts men with bowler hats
Carlos Kis, 1932-2010 a well known Brazilian artist.
Kis was born in Uruguay to a Romanian Jewish family and moved to Brazil where he was well known for his painting and sculpture. His formica paintings were an extremely laborious process and the media has not been used by other artists other than that of his daughter Anita, under Kis's supervision. Known as a painter, watercolorist and graphic artist Carlos Kis artworks show the surreal, modern and expressionist aspects of his inexhaustible talent and imagination. Inspired by Surrealism he developed Sinapsism. Kis studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad de la República (UdelaR) and at the Instituto de Profesores Artigas. For three years he ran the art gallery Opus in Brasília , then was director of a fashion magazine, worked as an interior designer and in the design department of an automotive company. Initially painting on canvas, he refrained from doing this during a five-year stay in New York in the 1970s and increasingly turned to works of art made from the artificial material Formica than baked into an enamel at high temperature. The Cyanamid company provided him with the necessary materials. In 1995, the Art of Living magazine devoted an extensive story to his works in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Punta del Este, New York, Guarujá, Porto Alegre, Joinville, São Paulo and Mexico City among others.
In 1960, he came to Brazil and lived in São Paulo for ten years. In this city, he released several albums of his own: Razão & Coração e Galos e Galos, 1966; IV Screenprints, 1968; and Woodcuts by Carlos Kis, 1969. After spending four years in New York (United States), he settled permanently in the city of Santos SP, in 1975. He is the creator of paintinlay, a technique of painting on pressed formica and submitted to high temperatures.
Reviews
"Carlos Kis exposes his painting, populated by madonnas, roosters and images, a threshold between the real and the fantastic, a mystical force that exerts a fascination on the public, the result of a cosmopolitan experience, from Yugoslav ancestry, to coming to Brazil and the departure for the United States. The five years he lived in New York put him in direct contact with the busy world of megalopolises, at the same time in search of explanations - like the primitive ones - in the fantastic. Magics, fetishes, myths , symbols, become strong in a new trend".
Roberto Peres
CARLOS Kis: oils and prints. Texts by Delmiro Gonçalves, Roberto Peres, Dottie Campbell and Thomaz S. Corrêa. Brasília: Itau Galeria, 1978.
"He is a man of the world and a 'creature of the universe', as Dottie Campbell asserts in 'Reviews' in New York. This universalism gives him conditions to produce a 'sui generis' style in painting. Various phases have marked the career of the artist He still now paints on Formica, not in the traditional Formica found in stores, but in a pressing process he calls 'paintinlay.' For this exhibition, Carlos Kiss prepared figures (a series of Mona Lisa, the posture of the model), still life, which the artist calls silent, all in water-quenching-and-oil. The result is in good taste and reveals the 'deep self' of the sensitive artist".
