About the Item
When the Eiffel Tower was conceived in 1886, it was to be a symbol of aesthetic avant-garde thinking. In 1994, Photographer Mitchell Funk pays homage to Gustave Eiffel's spirit of creativity. Funk photographed the French Monument in an equally inspired visual style. By shaking his camera at the lights of the base of the tower, he created hyperactive image of agitated colorful swirls. He then combined that image with an upward nocturnal view of the tower. This resulted in a theatricality that expresses the timelessness of the Eiffel Tower combined with the contemporary energy of a Jackson Pollock-like drip painting.
The work is signed, dated, and numbered 3/15, lower right recto. printed later , Other sizes are available and the fine art photograph is unframed. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper.
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one of the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
