About the Item
Veteran street photographer Mitchell Funk creates an arresting image composed of contrasting elements. A common New York City street light morphs into a haunting abstraction while the bridge to its immediate left is clear and sharp. The red street light stares down the viewer as it uncomfortably pushes forward into the viewer's space. On the other hand, the bridge appears to be running away as recedes into the distant zone. The right side of the image is hot red and yellow while the left is a cool blue. A dynamic dialog between the two elements fuels a tense composition of urban elements. It's a straight shot done on location without any photoshop manipulation.
Signed dated and numbered 3/15 lower right recto, other sizes available, unframed, printed later. This work is printed on fine art Hahnemuhle paper. The color will vary from monitor to monitor.

Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
