About the Item
This black-and-white photograph captures a scene of agricultural labor in the hills surrounding Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The image shows a worker using a traditional hand hoe to till the land, with mist rolling over the distant hills and the faint outline of a horse grazing in the background. The fog adds a quiet, almost ethereal quality to the scene, emphasizing the solitude and hard work of the laborer. This evocative image speaks to the timeless rhythm of life in the Haitian countryside, where agriculture remains an essential part of daily life.
