About the Item
This Himba elder was at a huge funeral gathering in the western Kaokoland between the largest town of the area, Opuwo, and Otjitando. The area was flat, and very dry, with a strong wind constantly whipping up fine, dry dust and flinging it across the landscape.
The funeral was quite different in feel. People were engaged in deep, animated conversations, they smiled and laughed a lot in more of a festival atmosphere than one of sadness. Long parted friends came together to celebrate the life of the man who had passed – a man of huge popularity and social status. The funeral was to last a week and the crowd was swelling each day. There were huge animal carcasses being cooked on fires tended carefully by younger Himba men.
I watched from a distance, concerned at the need for privacy at such a gathering, but a number of groups waved for me to come over. The elder maintained a natural authority within his small circle, and I noticed that others spoke to him with deference. In the past this man had hunted and killed desert lions. He then pointed to a large gouge on the man’s thigh – the results of one of these encounters.
The lower necklace on this man are made of the soft ears of lambs. The small metal spear-like object at the side of his head is used for scooping and sniffing powdered snuff.
John Kenny’s work is all shot on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa. His images are all taken with natural light and his subjects in their day to day attire.
The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a contemporary look.

All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery.
In 1999, Star Photographer Michel Comte created a series of images capturing intimate moments with a young Gisele Bündchen in Cannes, France, for a Jewelry Campaign published in Vogue Italia. The highly praised artworks are now part of fashion and fine art history and are sought-after worldwide.
This black-and-white portrait shows the supermodel with wet hair and smeared makeup as if she had just come back from a swim in the ocean. Her head is tilted back slightly, and the look she is shooting the camera is somewhat condescending yet challenging. With one hand, she is brushing her messy hair out of her face, showing off the cigarette she is holding to the viewer. The grungy and rebellious image is juxtaposed by the lavish jewelry the Model is wearing: Big chandelier earrings...

Albert Watson (*1942, Scotland) is a Scottish photographer well known for his fashion, celebrity, and art photography, having shot over 200 Vogue and 40 Rolling Stone covers since the mid-1970s. His photographs are signature, classical, and bold, and in our world of manipulation, Watson prefers the enlargers and the trays; an artist who greatly enriches our perception with his unique photographic view. Photo District News named Watson one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time, along with Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, among others.
Watson shared intimate moments about shooting celebrities like Johnny Depp, 50 Cent and Clint Eastwood and dove into the history behind famous shots like the double exposure of Mick Jagger and the leopard that Watson shot by chance. "The leopard was all over Mick so we had to build a glass partition...

12"x12"
In Sean Hemmerle’s poignant photographic series “THEM”, a portrait series of Iraqis and Afghans.
Each subject is portrayed frontally with no direction from the artist, allowing the individuals photographed to (re)present themselves. After witnessing the 9/11 attacks Hemmerle felt another response to these events was necessary and travelled to Afghanistan and Iraq where he shot a series of portraits. His resulting images are compassionate studies of people under attack by his own government.
The past five days out of Kabul were enlightening. Initially, the purpose of my adventure was to photograph the battlefields, minefields, and remaining architecture of a country surviving more than 20 consecutive years of warfare. A Mujahideen soldier who had served in the north under Ahmad Shah...
