About the Item
Portfolio Garden 1, 6 photos
From Germany to Portugal, from Portugal to Italy, the artist continues his research on light and its games, this time taking nature and trees as the theme. The black and white, the strong intensity of the contrasts, the immobility that seems to emerge from them, all combine to suggest that the vegetation has also mineralized, frozen, under the ascetic gaze of the artist. But put together, close together (which is the very principle of Jörg Krichbaum's work and his portfolios presented here), these photos above all say that unlike humans, nature does not let itself be immobilized. Under the effect of the wind or the sun, she goes on with her life, indifferent to the mistakes and horrors that we sometimes make her suffer. Beyond the photographic art, a portfolio that lets one get lost in meditation, in search of serenity.
From left to right and top to bottom:
Belem 1983, Essen 1981, Rome 1980, Rome 1983, Montecatini 1984, Düsseldorf 1979.
6 baryta prints 24 cm x 30 cm mounted under a white frame in 40 cm x 50 cm format, 2mm thick with the artist's stamp and signature on the back.
This constitutes a very exceptional offer.
German photographer Jörg Krichbaum is clearly one of the "greats" of his generation. He is appreciated not only in his country but also in Italy, Belgium or France. His work, his artistic discourse, do not let themselves be caught at first glance, because they are not perceived in a single shot, but when they are presented in sets that have become coherent despite their disparities. This is what led the artist to accept as many exhibitions as possible.
Following his death in 2002, his beneficiaries choose to preserve and protect this photographic archive, but do not give it the visibility it deserves. It was only in 2016 that an inventory and analysis work began in Brussels, when these archives were entrusted to Brussels Art Edition. Today, those in charge of the Krichbaum Fund are determined to transfer this archive as soon as possible to a European cultural organization (museum, specialized library, etc.) in order to ensure its final conservation and presentation to the public.
Before this transfer, the curator and the beneficiaries chose to give the opportunity to great amateurs and collectors to acquire thematic “portfolios”, all made up of original silver prints, of exceptional quality, on baryta paper, with very rich midtones and really dense blacks.
They are all signed and dated by the artist himself, all authenticated by the curator. Prints so rare that they can be considered unique pieces, even if some were printed in 2 or 3 copies in the 1980s and 90s.
The detailed biography of the artist can be found on Wikipedia, his books and catalogs of his exhibitions are still for sale on the Internet (by Amazon and others), everything allows the enthusiast to verify for himself that the today's offer is truly exceptional.

Steps, a ladder, almost all from the bottom to the top, to show you are climbing. Or ? It's up to everyone to decide, to think about which metaphor they prefer. But it's still a personal matter. For some it will be happy, easy or joyful, while for others, Jörg says in a text written in 1982, the image will refer to a painful memory, a painful sensation, an ordeal. Because this image is "us", it is only us but it is all of us. 6 baryta prints 24 cm x 30 cm mounted under a white open-frame 2mm thick in 40 cm x 50 cm format with the artist's stamp on the back. - Au chic Parisien - Coffret Prestige # 8 - Minimalist Black & White PhotographyBy Jörg KrichbaumLocated in Brussels, BEArtwork sold in perfect condition - Portfolio Au Chic Parisien - 5 photos In a text devoted to him, evoking these seemingly silent photos of Krichbaum, one critic used the term "din" to define the flow of thoughts and feelings that escaped from it. In this too quick glimpse of Paris, the artist creates a dialogue between the white glass balls of a hotel chandelier with two ostrich eggs in the window of a fashionable decorator, while the fashion models, scattered at will shops and seasons, endless stories are exchanged. From left to right and top to bottom: 1981, 1977, 1976, 1981, 1981, 1983. 5 baryta prints 24 cm x 30 cm mounted under a mat in 40 cm x 50 cm format, 2mm thick with the artist's stamp and signature on the back.
