This photo comes with a with Certificate of Authenticity About David Yarrow David Yarrow was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966. He took up photography at an early age and as a 20-year-old found himself working as a photographer for The London Times on the pitch at the World Cup Final in Mexico City. On that day, David took the famous picture of Diego Maradona holding the World Cup and, as a result, was subsequently asked to cover the Olympics and numerous other sporting events. Many years later David established himself as a fine art photographer by documenting the natural world from new perspectives and the last nine years have been career-defining. David’s evocative and immersive photography of life on earth is most distinctive and has earned him an ever-growing following amongst art collectors. His large monochrome images made in Los Angeles are on display in leading galleries and museums across Europe and North America. He is now recognised as one of the best-selling fine art...

"66 Degrees North" Wold Horse Shot in Namafjall Georhermal Area, Iceland
Located in Greenwich, CT
"66 Degrees North" Namafjall Geothermal Area, Iceland - 2022 Available Sizes (Framed Size) 52 x 58" Framed / Edition of 12 71 x 80" Framed / Edition of 12 This work is sourced directly from the artist. Framed Digital Pigment Print on Archival 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Hand-signed by artist with Certificate of Authenticity Developing a concept that ticks the boxes creatively and then executing that concept are emphatically two different jobs, which is why making a picture is a longer process than taking a picture. Many years ago, the exceptional work of British photographer Tim Flach, drew my attention to the hot springs of Myvatn in the north of Iceland. This remote area is geologically angry and in deep winter it is fairly inhospitable, but in the summer, it becomes something of a tourist resort for the local Icelandics and all too crowded for how we operate. We would always choose inhospitable over crowded. I have filmed here in the winter in the past, but struggled to do justice to the uniquely raw ecosystem. As always there is an element of knowing how to get it right by initially getting it hopelessly wrong. In particular, this is not a safe place without engaging locals, because the ground underneath, much like Yellowstone in Wyoming, is not to be taken for granted. To be brave and work close to the geysers needs permits and guides. But in 2022, we finally had our rewards. The weather plays such a big role in the field; no more so than up here at 66 degrees north where the Norse Gods granted my wish for strong winds and good light. It was the wind that amplified the trail of steam and allowed me to work a comfortable distance from the source without losing the effect. It was then up to me to work the strong late afternoon light to the best of my advantage. The end result is a strong image and certainly authentic. It's stripped back and visceral mood lives and breathes the wildest of Icelandic sagas. There are horse...

"Chief" American Indian Photographed in Wyoming Devil's Tower
Located in Greenwich, CT
"Chief" Wyoming, USA 2020 Large: 71" x 96” Edition of 12 Standard: 52" x 69" Edition of 12 This work is sourced directly from the artist. Framed Digital Pigment Print on Archival 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Hand-signed by artist with Certificate of Authenticity Over the last few weeks we have quietly been photographing senior Native Americans against the backdrop of quintessential and emblematic American vistas.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Whilst we will be releasing some of the series in the run up to the Presidential Election, this is not an overtly political statement from us. We know that Native Americans have long had a leaning toward the Democratic Party, but we took this assignment on because it is relevant, not to be political.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ There is wide recognition now that Christopher Columbus did not discover America in 1492 and the events in Minneapolis have accelerated the debate on the possibility of institutionalised racism in the teaching of American history. This is not a discussion we want to fully engage in - as we are ill equipped to add value, but I do want to celebrate some of the tribal elders I have had the fortune to encounter in the last month. Their pride, manners, grace and humility have been humbling. We have made new friends in the North.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ For this project we worked with Chief John Spotted Tail, the great-great-grandson of the fabled Lakota chief Spotted Tail. We spent two days with him in Northern Wyoming and he was so excited to wear the headpiece that only the most senior Native American chiefs like him can wear. His attire was emphatically his decision not ours. Their heritage is integral to their souls.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The ground in front of Devils Tower...

"Cindy's Shotgun Wedding" Nevada City, Montana USA 2019 Large: 71" x 108” Edition of 20 Standard: 52" x 76" Edition of 20 This work is sourced directly from the artist. Framed Digital Pigment Print on Archival 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Hand-signed by artist with Certificate of Authenticity Of course, we have worked in this room many times before and I know my light, my angles and the minimal depth of focus. We called last year’s photograph of the mountain men at the bar The Usual Suspects as that is exactly what they were. Some of those men rarely leave the warmth of The Pioneer Bar in Virginia City throughout winter - in fact they hibernate there. It proved such a popular image and has sold out across the world - in some cases raising huge sums for charity. So, when we went back this year, we thought it would be fun to have an additional crew member - Cindy Crawford. The word juxtaposition is over used in narrative, but I think we can get away with it here. The old boys may drink a bit and smoke a bit of weed, but they were on their very best behaviour that day - which is essentially still medieval. An international icon joining their party was not something they bargained for and at least one cowboy convinced himself it was the weed. We had to call the image The Unusual Suspects...

The Sheriff ’s Daughter / Sexy Framed Western Photo Josie Canseco
Located in Greenwich, CT
Framed Digital Pigment Print on Archival 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper The Residents Montana, USA - 2022 The intricate layout for this picture was preconceived before I went to bed the previous night. I knew that as soon as the sun rose above the buildings the light would be too harsh to work and that there could be no time for compositional pondering during the shoot. The camera angle needed flat light not aggressive shadows and the weather forecast suggested that we would need to be finished no later than 8.15 am. So, it was cold conditions when the cast began assembling at 6.15am. Josie...

Living Without Boarders Black and White Cowboy on Horse Photo taken in Mexico
Located in Greenwich, CT
Framed Digital Pigment Print on Archival 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Mexico / USA, 2020 I took this photograph of the legendary West Texas cowboy - Ty Mitchell - on a sandbank on the Rio Grande. Ty stands 6ft 5” tall and my general assessment is that not much fazes this guy. Meanwhile, the location is about as good as it gets and is rather wonderfully named Contraband Creek. I was standing in Mexico and 20 yards across the river was the US. Every time I walked knee deep across the river to change a lens or camera, I entered America and then on my return I re-entered Mexico. I think I actually entered America four times in a morning - all rather surreal with this talk of a wall. I would like to thank the US Border Patrol...

Black and White Photography, 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Alaska, USA 2016 I prefer to work with big alpha animals – elephants have a greater pull on me than mice. This is true also with birds and this has drawn me towards the American Bald eagle – a magnificent and emblematic creature with an astonishing wingspan of up to seven feet. The difficulty is capturing imagery that captures fresh detail – the world is not short of images of this bird – indeed they adorn homes in America from the White House down. The starting point for me was always going to be the wings – their size and textural detail. However, the more I worked on this project in Alaska, the more I was disappointed by my “in flight” work – I struggled to do the wings justice. The problem was simply that in flight, the wings do look big, but there is a disconnect to anything that gives real scale – a “big sky” does not help as it excludes much of what could help define and give context. I travelled to the fishing village of Homer – a great place to spot great Bald eagles, especially in the winter and spring and sure enough there were a great number of eagles on the beach. It was then a question of getting sufficiently close to work with as small a telephoto as possible. Instinctively, eagles will tend to take off away from an intruder, not towards him and to engineer the effect captured I had to use decoys...

The Unusual Suspects
Located in Greenwich, CT
In David Yarrow's own words, a story about this piece: "Virginia City, Montana 2019 Of course, we have worked in this room many times before and I know my light, my angles and the minimal depth of focus. We called last year’s photograph of the mountain men at the bar “The Usual Suspects” as that is exactly what they were. We had to call the image “The Unusual Suspects...

Once Upon a Time in the West
Located in Greenwich, CT
In David Yarrow's own words, a story about this piece: "“The Crazies”, Montana 2019 When I am asked for my medal podium of the most visually spoilt countries in the world, the usual suspects all fight for a place - Iceland, Norway, Chile, New Zealand, Italy and Namibia. But the gold medal will always go to America. There is just so much of it and such variety. The problem, however, is that America is also very well photographed. We are saturated with content. There are no awards for a picture of Yosemite at sunrise. The country shouts out for creative courage and originality from filmmakers. This was the genesis of the thinking behind my Road Trip series. We could leverage the jaw dropping scenery as a backdrop by all means, but then frame it with a car’s windscreen and a narrative in the front seats. The first image in the iconic Monument Valley with Josie Canseco proved a big hit and so we deliberated on round two. Hours were spent looking for a new story - either from a desk or by location scouts and in December we decided to go for a mountain range called “The Crazies” in Montana. We thought it appropriate as most of us are certifiably nuts by now. In the winter - when we decided to shoot - this is a place that emphatically connotes the cold, whereas Monument Valley does the exact opposite. In making the choice, we implicitly gave a nod to America’s climatic and visual breadth. We scouted the location at sunrise and sunset after which we knew it had to be sunrise. We also needed The Crazies to be free of cloud, dictating very cold conditions at dawn. I booked Josie again as she is striking, playful and on good terms with the wolf. This cinematic result, taken last Saturday, is beyond my dreams. Everyone involved should be proud. It was simply “Once upon a time in the West...
