Michael Alago rose from humble Puerto Rican roots in Brooklyn to the netherworld of downtown New York’s music and arts scene of the 1970s and 1980s. He quickly gained recognition from rubbing elbows with NYC scene-makers at Max’s Kansas City and CBGB to running the Dead Boys’ fan club to being a 19-year-old talent booker at the legendary Ritz nightclub. At 24, Alago began a storied career as an A&R executive at Elektra Records, signing the biggest metal band in a generation in Metallica. Through his music career at Elektra, Geffen Records and Palm Pictures, he signed and executive produced acts as diverse as White Zombie, Flotsam and Jetsam, Public Image Ltd, Swans, Cyndi Lauper and jazz legend Nina Simone (executive producing her final album "A Single Woman"). Alago succeeded professionally as a gay man in a heavy metal music sub-culture known for its perceived homophobia through his personal photography. Michael survived the AIDS crisis, alcohol and drug addiction and re-invented himself as a visual artist, poet and published art photographer. A documentary has been released on the artist’s life currently airing on Netflix, Amazon and iTunes.  The film is called  "Who The F*ck Is That Guy? The Fabulous Journey of Michael Alago", directed by Drew Stone. It is receiving worldwide acclaim.
