"Snow Covered Trees" is a black & white landscape photograph measuring 25x36" unframed. All of Rick's photographs are printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Paper using archival pigment-based inks. There are other edition sizes available, namely 12x17" and 7x10". Photographs are rolled carefully and shipped in a tube. Framing is optional and quoted separately.
The snow in winter really brings forth the minimalist aesthetic that Rick strives for in his images. The tones and contrast, along with the composition of the subject matter strike a balance between simplicity and complexity. This image was shot at Humber Bay Park West in Toronto.
Rick Bogacz is a Toronto-based photographer specializing in pristine, meditative black & white landscape photographs. A practitioner of the Japanese philosophy of Ma – the celebration of the space between things – Rick's goal is to evoke a calming esthetic that is both gentle and elegant. Negative space becomes as important to developing the image as the key subject matter itself.
From Rick: “I do this work to try and capture a sense of tranquility and peacefulness in a world that is experiencing less of these attributes.”

His first solo show at Gagné Contemporary will be in Spring 2024.

The Dark Forest emerged following a hike through the Orangeville Conservation Area as the last remnants of daylight cast an enchantment through this stand of trees. The photograph was exhibited as part of the Horizons Group show at Toronto’s Twist Gallery in January, 2023.

Grenadier Pond is in High Park in Toronto, which opened to the public in 1876. It spans 161 hectares (400 acres) and is the second-largest municipal park in Toronto. It is a great location for photographers and naturalists. This image was taken at around 6:30 a.m. at the park’s Grenadier Pond. A long exposure really enhances the reflection of the trees and brush at the pond’s shoreline.

Trips north of Toronto are required to get large expansive fields of fresh, untrodden snow. This image was taken at a hillside intersection near the town of Caledon, Ontario. What attracted Rick to this view was the curved lines at the base of the trees and the snowy field.

A trip to Goderich, Ontario inspired this photograph of a group of rocks peaking above the surface of the beach. A long exposure revealed the silky texture of the water from Lake Huron.
