About the Item

All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. Roxanne Lowit's works are a glimpse behind the scenes of the world of art and fashion. This image depicts three women sitting at a table chatting and gossiping. They are wearing chic dresses and jewelry. The collection of plates and glasses on the table in front of them sets the scene at a dinner party. The woman on the left is Nan Kempner. Born in California, the fashion collector moved to New York with her husband and quickly became one of the city's most influential socialites and fashion icons. On the right sits Jaqueline de Ribes, a French socialite and fashion designer. She also managed the Cuevas Ballet, worked with museums and charities, and nature conservation. The image is a nostalgic nod to the glitz and glam of New York's high society in the second half of the 20th century, the economic boom, and the escapades of the art scene that came with it. The grainy black and white typical for Lowits' analog photography helps create a graphic and memorable image. Daring poses, red lips, crooked smiles, and sex appeal characterize the photographic oeuvre of the late Roxanne Lowit. Catapulting us straight back into a decade of excess and ecstasy, her unfiltered lens into the 90s reveals more than ever. Uninterested in glossy façades, the star photographer captured the unseen without being voyeuristic. Eternalizing the prime of supermodel culture with Kate Moss and Naomie Campbell, enfant terribles of the art circus, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, or dictators of taste, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Lowit's work embodies the Who's Who. Effortlessly glamorous, Lowit's visual language underlines carefree moments and encounters of the rich and famous.
