About the Item
Via di Monte Savello - Disappeared Rome, is a photographic print on Baryta paper, by unknown photographer.
Excellent condition, cm 22.5 x 16.5.
The view was taken from the gate of Palazzo Orsini and depicts all via di Monte Savello, including the church of San Gregorio della Divina Pietà which was saved from demolitions: the entire block of houses was demolished for the "Via Del Mare" project and to unearth some ruins that are now visible, in neglect, under to the current bus terminus.
This important photographic document provides us with an image of the second Ghetto of Rome (called Ghettarello), built in the 16th century as an extension of the Jewish Ghetto. We have inherited very few testimonies of this place, one of the greatest could be this photograph.
This shoot was realized around 1928, depicting some ghost buildings or completely empty buildings, some without fixtures and windows. On the road a row of wagons and carts already loaded with furniture to be transported to other homes.
