Purple Experiment

2017

About the Item

Purple Experiment, 2016-2017 Archival pigment print on Aluminum 24 x 36 inches Edition of 5 The synesthesia phenomenon is traditionally said to be the confusion of senses; like hearing color or feeling pain from sound. Garner has synthesized dyes, influenced by color psychology, with symbolic flora to elucidate this phenomenon in viewers through a six part series exploring the Solfeggio frequencies, an ancient six-tone musical scale speculated to have healing properties. Ashley G Garner is a conceptual photographer and filmmaker residing in New York City. Raised in the foothills of North Carolina an adoration with fantasy and the sublime effect were bred. Coupled with degrees in Photography and Art History from Florida International University in Miami, FL and a background as a writer she cultivated a balance between structured forms and poetic rebellion. Working across multiple artistic platforms which include still life, editorial, figurative, video and self-portrait’s Ashley’s work dances with many conversations that stretch from the social to the metaphysical world with themes of duality, mythology, and transcendental symbolism.

  • 'Cicatrices 3' Large scale photo. Agave leaf, female tropical blue teal green
    By Sophia Milligan
    Located in Penzance, GB
'Cicatrices (3)' Limited edition archival photograph. Unframed, hand signed and numbered _________________ Scars of birthing in the unfolding leaf pattern of the giant graceful Agave. The sensual contradictions of silken flesh and the protective spines are a contemplation of motherhood's journey, the unfolding narrative impressed eternally upon the skin. Sophia's poetic photographs are an exploration of the balance in all things: in the sensual interplay of light and shadow; in wild raw energy and serene stillness; in joy and pain; in the enduring and the effervescent. They are a contemplation of the awareness that everything in existence is temporary, they speak of the ephemeral nature of all things. Moments, feelings, experiences cherished and appreciated in their impermanence, for that is where the beauty comes from. 'I work with time, and the immeasurable spaces of experience within... tangible traces, evidence left behind, records; process in action, stilled'. 40 x 60 inches Limited edition of 25 Archival Print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® paper, one of the most beautiful and high quality art papers available. The luxurious matt finish provides a reflection free image that is rich in detail, depth and tone. Hand signed, titled and numbered to the lower right corner on an approximately 1 inch white border. Each print comes with a Certificate of Authenticity featuring a signature and edition number. * Please note that images of the artwork in situ and framed are an indication of how the piece can look, and in the context of other artworks. The artwork is being sold unframed. ________________________________ About The Artist Sophia Milligan...
