Cheryl Maeder
Purple Haze Two- Super Natural Series- Limited Edition of 10

2020

About the Item

In the Super Natural Series, I want to evoke a mysterious, lyrical world through the interplay of color and light. Fusing the natural world with my inner world, I create visuals that are somewhere between reality and the sublime. I create the photographs for the Super Natural Series entirely on location working with the elements of wind and the natural light. The fog of color is created in each setting on location. Cheryl Maeder was born in Elmwood Park, New Jersey and in her early 20s moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where she studied photography at the Zurich University of the Arts. After eight years in Switzerland, Maeder returned to United States and opened her successful photography studio in San Francisco, where she photographed international advertising and fashion campaigns. Cheryl Maeder transitioned from photographing fashion models to photographing real women. She wanted to celebrate the beauty of women in all shapes and sizes. Her photography work became the inspiration for the global Dove Campaign on Real Women, Real Beauty which transformed the way women are perceived in the media. In 2005, she relocated her studio to the Miami area and deeply immersed herself into fine art photography and filmmaking. Maeder’s explorations with her camera uncovered her passion for Abstractionism and Impressionism in both her photography and her video installations. “Each of Maeder’s images elegantly transform into paintings. Through her work, we are introduced to an avant-garde method of painting through photographs.” Sebastian Perez, NSU Art Museum, Fort Lauderdale • Permanent Collection Frost Museum, Miami & Coral Springs Museum of Art • Exhibition at The Louvre, Paris • Solo Exhibition Miami International Airport Sept. 2016 • Selected by Art Miami/Art Southampton to represent Art Southampton 2015 Worldwide Media Campaign • Pending Public Art Installation Celestial Babies for City of West Palm Beach • Auctioned at Sothebys New York • Exhibited at major art fairs worldwide including Art Miami, Scope NY, Art Toronto, Art London and Art Shanghai • Video Installation, Submerge, Canvas Outdoor Museum, Public Art Installation, City of West Palm Beach. • Video Installation, Play, Best of Show, Palm Beach Cultural Council Biennial 2015, Juror Elisabeth Sobieski, Art Critic, Huffington Post • Work featured in Hospitality Design, Architectural Digest, Coastal Living, Southern Living, InStyle and Elle Decor. By Shai Kremer
    Located in New York, NY
Shai Kremer lives and works in New York. He completed his MFA studies at the School of Visual Arts (S.V.A) in Manhattan. For many years, Kremer's eye has been drawn to themes of urban destruction and reconstruction and to landscapes evidencing trauma. These concerns merged in his ambitious series W.T.C: Concrete Abstract, which explores the impact of the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. For more than a decade, Kremer made periodic visits to Ground Zero, focusing his camera on the efforts towards recovery, repair, and renewal. As a collection, Concrete Abstract conveys the gradual progression from tragedy towards healing. Each large-scale archival pigment print in the series is composed from as many as sixty to 100 overlapping images, resulting in a subtle collage that invites closer inspection while also reading as a unified whole. W.T.C: Concrete Abstract series was shown in the following venues: 9.11 Memorial Museum New York
Museum of the City of New York
The Bronx Museum of the Arts
The Brooklyn Academy of Music Photolux Festival. Lucca, Italy FMoPa. Tampa, USA Julie M. Gallery, Tel Aviv Julie Saul Gallery, New York Robert Koch Gallery...
