The Omo Valley's people have confronted daunting challenges, from relentless drought to internal political strife, compelling them to adapt swiftly. In these transformative times, the urgent need arises for a more enlightened and compassionate perspective of the world—one that places the wisdom of marginalized communities, who have coexisted harmoniously with the natural world for centuries, at its heart. Their insights can guide us towards a future where nature and humanity thrive in harmony, fostering a deeper connection with both each other and the world that sustains us." - Cristina Mittermeier Biography: A virtuous mind and voice in conservation photography and one of the most influential female photographers in the world, Cristina Mittermeier began her career as a Marine Biologist working in her native Mexico. Cristina Mittermeier Biography: "Whim and humor are two of the qualities I look for in an image. I photographed this Lisu woman from one of the Tibetan minorities in China, as she took her pet goose for a walk in a street market in the southwestern corner of China. The image, made with an old single reflex Yashica camera, always makes me smile." -Cristina Mittermeier A virtuous mind and voice in conservation photography and one of the most influential female photographers in the world, Cristina Mittermeier began her career as a Marine Biologist working in her native Mexico. Syrian Girl by Zack Whitford - Contemporary Portrait Photography
By Zack Whitford
Located in Chicago, IL
Syrian Girl Beqaa Valley, 2015 Zack Whitford’s expertise lies in capturing facial expressions and emotions as they occur, creating truly empathetic images. The gaze of the young Syrian girl who was photographed at a refugee camp in the Beqaa Valley incorporates the entire thesis of Humanity, instantly drawing the audience to her and forcing them to care for her, whether consciously or not. To view this image is to realize that Whitford’s stance is not to convey his own emotions, but to reveal to his audience that which already exists in the world of humankind and why we should care for it.
