About the Item
This distinctive, colorful floral Digital Photographic Assemblage, created by the collaborative duo of Ellen Martin and Kevin Hinkle, is part of an extensive body of work, exploring the relationship between decay and renewal in the natural environment. In this series, the artists have created composite works that depict a renewed vibrancy from images of decomposing roses. Specifically, Hinkle and Martin have incorporated echoes of other natural and botanical images (roses and leaves), which suggest new life emerging. The interaction of these various plants and flowers combined with a heightened color palette brings a revitalized beauty to the dying flowers which, in turn, enables the artists to create their version of nature’s cycle of creating new life from decay.
