Ellen Kaplowitz "Eiffel Tower, Paris", photograph print, Hand signed and titled verso, 15.75"h x 23.75"w (sight), 17"h x 25"w (frame) Ellen Kaplowitz has been globetrotting and snapping photos along the way for more than two decades. She has traveled to all seven continents, has worked in China, Ghana, Cambodia, Laos, India, Ethiopia, Bhutan, France, Cuba, Morocco and Libya (to name only a few of her locales). Kaplowitz’s photographs have been seen in numerous museums across the United States, including the Field Museum, the Newark Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, the Pacific Asia Museum, the Asia Society, the Museum for African Art, the Peabody Essex Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the New-York Historical Society, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Houston Museum of African American Culture and galleries, Tyler Rollins, New York and Carl Schlosberg’s Fine Arts, Los Angeles, Artless Gallery, Tokyo. Her photographs have been published in magazines such as Time and Natural History, as well as her book A World of Decent Dreams: Vietnam Images. She is working on a book of Eastern Tibet. Photographs by Ellen Kaplowitz have been published in Natural History, Time, and other magazines, as well as in her book, A World of Decent Dreams: Vietnam Images (Weatherhill, 2003). Photographer Jeffrey Rothstein focuses on different elements within Nature for his subject matter, ranging from flowers and plants to desert sands as well as the ocean and stars. Taking these varied images he distorts them through a series of photographic cross processes to create surreal otherworldly effects transforming the real into unreal visions that are extremely vivid, colorful and abstracted. “Jeffrey’s powerful body of work demonstrates the vast beauty of his compositions and his eye for rich color and sensual forms.
