About the Item

Man standing in New York City, painted so he is barely visible in the image, photographed by Liu Bolin in 2011. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. At first glance, Liu’s photographs seem to be only of unique locations - a rack of Mexican wrestling masks for sale or a pile of municipal waste. On closer inspection, an outline of a man appears, precisely painted in camouflage and hiding in the open. A metaphor for the condition of today’s citizens who feel invisible to the greater powers of consumerism and urbanization, Liu Bolin’s sociopolitical works constantly provides examinations of the binaries between the city’s inhabitants and their surrounding environment, vision and reality, and illusion and truth. Liu Bolin was born in 1973 in the Chinese province of Shandong. He finished his studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing with a Master of Fine Arts in 2001. His works have been shown in museums across the world ever since, and he rapidly made a name for himself as “The Invisible Man”. His best-known photographs are from the Hiding in the City series, which began as action art in 2005. PREISS FINE ARTS celebrates 15 years of successful collaborations with only the most esteemed photographers and collectors. Defining the photographic landscape from the start, we reshaped Fine Art Photography. Over the years, we've built strong relationships with our artists, offering a thoughtfully curated selection that captures the essence of contemporary fine art.
