About the picture : Pelican Heart, the 'squadron' of pelicans are on the hunt as they work in unison to corral bait
fish along the shoreline. The pelicans' synchronised movement reveals Mother Nature's artistic
flair with a beautiful heart shaped formation. This natural occurrence was captured at the perfect
moment and has won numerous awards in competition, particularly in the Nature subcategory of
which photo manipulation is disallowed.
About the artist :
Matt Beetson (Australian, b. 1977) is a photographer from Broome in Western Australia. His
subject is landscapes of nature and planet Earth documented through aerial photography. He
believes that there is still so much unexplored from the aerial perspective, whether it's using
drones or flying in a helicopter or light aircraft. There is something truly special about our Earth
when viewed from above, a perspective we rarely get to see and of course it is also for the love
and joy of flying. To shed light on the importance of protecting our planet, he hopes his
photographs inspire people, generate conversation and hopefully engage the viewer enough to
really be enamoured with our Earth and that it drives a desire to do more to protect it.
