About the Item
Perched atop a York Avenue highrise, Photographer Mitchell Funk captures an early morning winter vista of Manhattan.
To the right of a big puff of smoke and to the right of the Twin Towers, you will find the Chrysler Building rising above it all. Isolated against a magenta sky, the Chrysler Building spire resembles a 1950s rocket ship more than an icon of 1930s Art Deco architecture. The image was taken in 1974 before the rapid development of Manhattan. Today, this view is radically different and the view of the Chrysler Building is obscured.

The work is signed dated and numbered 2/15 lower right recto, with other sizes available, and it's unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper

Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
