About the Item
Robert Kennedy (RFK) and his wife Ethel Kennedy, campaigning in a small town in Indiana USA in 1968 is a color photograph, 16” x 24,” an archival pigment print signed in pencil on verso (back of photo) by the Glinn estate with the photographer's blind stamp on recto (right bottom margin). As brother to John F Kennedy (JFK) 35th president (1961-1963) of the United States, Robert Francis ‘Bobby’ Kennedy was a beloved politician known for his liberalism. In 1968 5 years after the assassination of his brother John in 1963, Bobby was killed on the presidential campaign trail - the same year that photographer Burt Glinn captured RFK and wife Ethel in Indiana. Provenance: Glinn Estate *** Artist’s Bio: Born 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, photographer Burt Glinn worked for LIFE magazine before joining Magnum photo agency. He photographed personalities throughout the 1950s and 60s, continuing to work commercially and editorially for more than five decades in the US and abroad on assignment, until his death in 2008. The artist photographed revolutionary leader Fidel Castro entrance into Havana, Cuba, celebrity and art luminaries such as Andy Warhol and Helen Frankenthaler. Subject matter included the social scene of the rich, the dirtiness of politics, and the humorous. Glinn received numerous awards for his editorial and commercial photography.
