Richard Heeps series A Short History of Milan began as a special project for the 2018 Affordable Art Fair Milan. It was well received and the artwork has become popular with art buyers around the world. Richard continues to add to the collection as he frequently returns to Milan to make new work for the series. There is a reoccurring linear, structural theme throughout the series, capturing the Milanese use of materials in design such as glass, metal, wood and stone. "I have a strong connection to Northern Italy from printing my books in Verona, and I have visited Milan to exhibit many times. The work here is a series I have been sketching ideas for for a while, and I am excited to release my first Italian body of work, capturing the spirit of Milan." It sits alongside his Hong Kong, Vietnam and New York series of street photography, which depict the colour, fabric and structure of cities with distinct style.
