I never made the choice to use expired Polaroid film because it was about nostalgia or preserving the past. I did it because it felt like the most honest way to engage with memory, to look at time in a way that isn’t perfect but raw. The flaws, the tears, the way the colors bend and bleed into one another—these aren’t mistakes. They’re a direct reflection of how we live, how we move through life, how things break down and rebuild in unexpected ways.
It’s not about capturing a moment that exists in perfection. It’s about seeing that moment as it’s becoming something else. There’s a purpose to the decay, to the unpredictability of it all. What I’m after isn’t some pure form of art. It’s something that speaks to the truth of imperfection, of time slipping through our fingers. That’s what drives my work. It’s something no one else is doing, and that’s what sets it apart. Others may chase sharp clarity, but I’ve always been after something else—the strange beauty that comes from letting things go.
No one has made what I’ve made because I’m not trying to recreate anything. I’m creating from a place of disintegration. The way time makes everything bend and twist, the way memory fades but doesn’t disappear—it’s all part of a conversation. My art, my process, is that conversation. And it’s not just a momentary reflection; it’s a slow burn, something that doesn’t demand answers.
It’s the space between reality and dream, between what we wish we could hold and what we have to let go of.
