Stefanie Schneider’s art stands as a testament to the imperfections that make us who we are—the moments of failure, disconnection, and loss that are often ignored by mainstream narratives. It challenges us to accept that we are all works in progress, and perhaps, in doing so, it demands the recognition of these shared human struggles. The ache for acknowledgment in Schneider’s work isn’t just a personal yearning; it’s a universal feeling that transcends time and space, reflecting the collective longing to be seen, understood, and validated.
So, in many ways, her work doesn’t merely document; it becomes a vessel for deep emotional connection, a space where we are invited to reflect on our own vulnerabilities and the quiet truths we often leave unspoken. This connection is the heart of her art—one that aches not just for acknowledgment from others, but also for a deeper understanding of oneself in a world that often seeks to define and label us, rather than simply letting us exist as we are.

By Colleen Fitzgerald

Edition of 5
Colleen Fitzgerald's series, "Stamina," provides new approaches to conventional subjects by utilizing the materials and tools of photography in non-traditional ways. A unique physical process combines aspects of sculpture and photography, subverting the idealized two-dimensional photograph and providing a new entry point to the enduring photographic subjects of natural landscapes, seascapes, and more.
To create the photographs, unexposed large sheets of positive film are cut and bent into three dimensional shapes before being exposed inside a camera outfitted with a custom film holder that accepts the film as a three-dimensional object instead of as a standard, flat sheet. The results on the shaped film can...

WHAT IS A CYANOTYPE?
cyan = blue
type = print
Cyanotype is a historic photographic processes, invented in 1842 and used by Anna Atkins–the first female photographer. The process involves coating watercolor paper with light-sensitive chemistry made of iron salts. Photographic negatives are laid on top, exposed in the sunlight, and then washed in water to develop into the deep Prussian-blue unique to cyanotypes. Brings a moment of beauty and conversation to any space.
