About the Item

Limited edition photograph #1 of 5, 40"x60" C-print photograph, signed and editioned by the artist. This color photograph depicts a graphic composition of shredded paper bales. Bound and stacked, the rectangular geometry of neutral whites and yellows creates a contemporary abstract grid, with pops of red and blue color. Vertical and horizontal lines of the straps that hold the strips of paper in place, prepared for the next step in the recycling process. This contemporary photograph documents the positive gains in industrial reclamation of paper to help with the environmental impact. This photograph documents the industrial recycling from the automobile industry in scrap yards in the Midwest. Photographs in this series follow the scrapping, the melting-down, and the remaking of defunct automobiles into new automobiles.Mallon’s work can be frightening, showing huge crashing, splashing, smashing hunks of metal flying through air. His work is about the environment, and, as terrifying as it can be, his photographs always look for positive aspects of the way that humans interact with the environment through recycling. Mallon’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally, and his work has been written about in many publications, including National Geographic, The New Yorker, New York Times, Vanity Fair, Wired, Stern, PetaPixel, Viral Forest, BuzzFeed, New York Magazine, The Huffington Post, and featured on CNN, CBS, MSNBC and NPR.
