About the Item

Edition of 3 Signed, titled, dated and numbered. Paper size: 30 x 24 in., Image size: 16 x 16 in. A digital photograph is made up of pixels, tiny blocks of color. Within one image, millions of different colored pixels give shape to the photograph’s landscape. Stuart Allen’s continued interest in the properties of light and color are illustrated in this series which gathers blocks of pixels from certain parts of a digital photograph. In his works, he mines pixels from one coastline snapshot taken in Baja, California. Other works are sourced from digital snapshots of eyes, which are designated as portraits of the sitter. The simple square image illustrates difference in light exposure, but also becomes a remarkable color study, much like Josef Albers' "Homage to the Square".
