Unique large-format Polaroid Polacolor print, signed and dated in ink in the margin, mounted, framed, Dated 2005 Chris Browne, Andrew Gordon and Orville 30 x 22 in. (sheet), 36 x 28 x 2 in. (frame). lnternal Dye Diffusion print (large format) Polaroid print. These are exceedingly rare now. this size was used exclusively by many of the leading photographers of the second half of the 20th century, among them Peter Beard, Chuck Close,, David Levinthal, Robert Frank, David Hockney, Robert Mapplethorpe and, perhaps most significantly, Ansel Adams Although contemporary art has moved beyond the Pop art of yesteryear, the most influential artists of the latter twentieth century have taken bold steps to include dog art as a central theme in their artistic endeavors. David Hockney, William Wegman, and George Rodrigue, have not arbitrarily juxtaposed canines in their works but have put their dog friends on center stage – offering the art world new glimpse of man’s best friend. William Wegman (1943 - ) American Pop Artist William Wegman (b. 1943) William Wegman was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1943. In 1965 he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and in 1967 his Masters of Fine Arts at the University of Illinois. He had his first solo show in Paris in 1971 at the Galerie Sonnabend. In 1972 he took part in the Documenta 5 in Kassel and in 1976 he was also part of Documenta 6. In 1972, Wegman and his Weimarner Man Ray moved to New York. In 1986, a new dog, Fay Ray, came into Wegman's life, and with Fay Ray another famous collaboration began, marked by Wegman's use of the Polaroid 20 x 24 camera. Wegman has received numerous awards and grants from some of the most prestigious art institutions of the country. He has also had his works exhibited in museums and galleries internationally, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., The Whitney Museum of Art in New York, F.R.A.C. Limousine in France, and The Museum of Natural Art in New York.
