Arroyo Dreams, Contemporary Figurative and Landscape Photographic Print on Metal
12" x 8" x 0.75" (HxWxD) Print on Aluminum
Hand-signed by the artist in verso.
This work holds a strong juxtaposition: the woman in white exudes an air of elegance and serenity, but the path she walks along is dry and cracked, a stretch of earth that has been through cycles of weather that have changed its landscape, drying from the heat beating down on it. Artist Amanda Lomax has managed to capture this mysterious duality elegantly: a dream-like strut of a young girl in the New Mexico landscape as a foreboding storm looms overhead.
Open edition digital print on 1/16" aluminum. Comes ready to hang.
Artist Commentary:
The setting of this image is a dry riverbed in Sante Fe, NM. The technical name for this place is "Arroyo". I was drawn to it immediately, imagining it filled with water and then drying out again. What captivated me most though, was the way it felt like a path or road. With or without water, it is a thoroughfare. The figure travels on this thoroughfare. We don't know who she is or where she's going but somehow we connect with her. The original piece is a digital photograph printed on dye sublimation aluminum with a dibond backing and complete with hanging hardware. The finish is matte and the piece sits approximately 1/2" off the wall with sawtooth float mount hanging hardware attached to the back. Piece is signed in verso.
About the Artist:
Born in Nashville, TN in 1979, American artist Amanda Lomax lives and works in Nashville, TN and Sandgate, UK. Ms. Lomax holds a cum laude degree in Communications from Boston University, completing coursework in Darkroom and digital photography. She was selected as a Teaching Assistant at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and Maine Media College, and spent several summers learning from renowned photographers: Cig Harvey, Joyce Tenneson, Keith Carter, Aline Simpson and Susan Burnstine. She is a recipient of the 2020 TriStar Arts Award and a graduate of the Periscope Arts Program. Her work uses digital photography and technology to manifest abstract ideas into tangible pieces of art. She refers to this process as 'Photographic Techspressionism’. This process allows her to play with the boundaries between photography and digital art, drawing inspiration from organic landscapes and her emotional response to these subjects. She is deeply influenced by the work of Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Josef Albers. Color is fundamental as she relies on it to produce a heightened emotional and visual experience for the viewer.

Not Today, Contemporary Black and White Photograph, 2021
24" 16" x 0.75" (HxWxD) Digital Print on Aluminium

As with the concept of memento mori, this black and white photographic portrait brings together life and death in close proximity. The skull is held closely to the human's body, as if the bones now take the place of their own head. Taxidermy and preserved animal bones bring the living face-to-face with the fleeting nature of life, adding to our cabinet of curiosities. This work by Amanda Lomax conjures up thoughts of Georgia O'Keeffe and her time spent out west in New Mexico's desert landscape.
Artist Commentary:
Donald is a professional model, gem collector, and all around Renaissance Man. When we found this unusual skull of a three horned ram, it seemed as unique and special as he is. Sometimes we feel like facing the world head on. Sometimes we feel like presenting ourselves behind a three-horned sheep skull.

She Disappeared into Complete Silence (AD6329) - figurative landscape photograph
By Mona Kuhn
Located in San Francisco, CA
In the series 'She Disappeared into Complete Silence' (2014) Mona Kuhn takes a new direction into abstraction.
She turns to a highly austere and restrained reductionist geometry and distilled formal purity, connecting the interior to the exterior, the visible to the hidden. These reflections cause one to linger, as they merge to create a dynamic equilibrium of tension, spaces and rythms.

About the artist
Acclaimed for her contemporary depictions, Kuhn is considered a leading artist in the world of figurative discourse. Throughout a career spanning more than twenty years, the underlying theme of her work is her reflection on humanity’s longing for spiritual connection and solidarity. As she solidified her photographic style, Kuhn created a notable approach to the nude by developing friendships with her subjects, and employing a range of playful visual strategies that use natural light and minimalist settings to evoke a sublime sense of comfort between the human figure and its environment. Her work is natural, restful, and a reinterpretation of the nude in the canon of contemporary art.
For the past two decades, the Los-Angeles based artist's works have been shown steadily, revealing an astonishing consistency in technique, of subject and of purpose. In 2001, Kuhn’s photographs were first seen by an influential audience during the exhibition at Charles Cowles Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Kuhn’s distinct aesthetic has propelled her as one of the most collectible contemporary art photographers—her work is in private and public collections worldwide and she is represented by galleries across the United States, Europe and Asia.
Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, of German descent. In 1989, Kuhn moved to the US and earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Occasionally, Mona teaches at UCLA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Mona Kuhn’s first monograph, Photographs, was debuted by Steidl in 2004; followed by Evidence (2007), Native (2010), Bordeaux Series (2011), Private (2014), and She Disappeared into Complete Silence (2018/19). In addition, Stanley/Barker Editions published Kuhn's Bushes and Succulents (2018) with a debut at Musee Jeu de Paume in Paris in 2019. Thames & Hudson published a career retrospective titled Works. Kuhn's most recent publication Kings Road with Steidl accompanies a multi-dimensional museum exhibition in Germany and the US.
Mona Kuhn’s work is in private and public collections worldwide, including The J. Paul Getty Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Hammer Museum, the Perez Art Museum in Miami, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Kiyosato Museum in Japan. Kuhn's work has been exhibited at The Louvre Museum and Le Bal in Paris, The Whitechapel Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts in London, Musée de l’Elysée in Switzerland, Leopold Museum in Vienna Austria, The Polygon Gallery in Vancouver Canada, Australian Centre for Photography and Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan.
Mona Kuhn currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
