During the height of New York City’s shelter-in-place order, Dina took to the streets of the East Village and surrounding neighborhoods after sunset, photographing the sudden absence of people. Enticed by pools of vivid light and color - newly visible without the throngs of pedestrians - Litovsky captures rare appearances of human life, and the surreal world we inhabited during those months.
Dina Litovsky’s work typically centers around large gatherings and swells with physical energy. Her images of debutante balls, social justice marches, and political rallies have been featured in such publications as National Geographic, the New York Times Magazine, TIME, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, and GQ. Entranced by a New York she knew would be temporary, Dina documented singular figures decontextualized by artificial light, risking their lives, longing for others, and detached from their city.
