Isabelle van Zeijl is recognized for her mastery in creating striking self-portraits. She produces her images autonomously, taking on the roles of model, creator, object and subject simultaneously. In this new Ocean series, Van Zeijl sets her eyes on a global topic, the pollution of our oceans. The urge for information drew her to The Bahamas where she witnessed copious plastics and discarded fishing nets on many beaches. Several of the photographs were taken on-site, but she also utilized her typical portrait process in the studio, incorporating the detritus she found on the islands.
