About the Item
Buddhism in Burma is practiced by 90% of the country's population and is predominantly of the Theravada Tradition. Monks, collectively known as the sangha, are venerated members of Burmese society. This monk was photographed at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon Burma. The Shwedagon is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Burma, as it is believed to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas of the present Kalpa. The photograph is professionally dry-mounted to archival backing with archival matting and is framed in a black wood frame.
