Where I live in Somerset, in south-west England, Glastonbury Tor can be seen from every direction. Its distinctive shape -a hump of land topped by the tower of a church that collapsed long ago- often emerges from the early morning mists. Some say that King Arthur held court here, in a place that is still called, by some, Avalon.
