The vast, pristine, mysterious swamps of Estonia are full of unanticipated surprises. From above, these landscapes appear dreamy and lyrical. In national parks like Lahemaa National Park, these marshes are frequently protected. While extensive peat extraction in Estonia is destroying natural peatlands, former peat extraction areas are being converted back to swamps. Bogs are six times more effective at storing carbon dioxide than forests, making them essential for this process. Since 2010, Bernhard Lang dedicates himself to aerial photography, travelling around the world and looking for singular landscapes impacted by human activities. From the sky, these views almost look like abstract paintings.
